First idea: Get rid of the government contractors abroad. What is WITH these people? I'm not even in the military and I can't stand them. Blackwater in Iraq, Armor Group in Kabul, and any other government contracted private group that undermines the tiny shreds of dignity that has been earned by the spilt blood of our soldiers all have to be fired. Yesterday. From what I understand these people earn much more than our soldiers. Then they go and make a mockery of things. They make us and particularly our soldiers look bad, in countries where we are already unwelcome. Why isn't the military guarding the embassy anyway? We already know that the government is not particularly talented when it comes to oversight. Madoff stole 50 Billion dollars, lots of people reported it to the SEC, and they STILL didn't see it. The TARP oversight committee has admitted they don't know where the money has gone and can't do anything about it. Banks, Airlines, Detroit, etc. The government does not have a stellar record when it comes to oversight. But it does have a powerful military capable (I think) of providing security for the Kabul embassy. I need to do some research on this topic to learn more.
Second idea: Have you seen Kenan Thompson as Financial COnsultant Oscar Rodgers on SNL's Weekend Update?
His advice is priceless. "Step one: identify problem. Step two: FIX IT! Repeat as necessary until it's been FIXED!"
So here's my idea. Let's move Washington out of town. Here's what I mean. Sequester all the Representatives, Senators, the President, the Supreme Court Justices, and essential support personnel for all of them in a secret location nowhere near the Capitol. Somewhere like Area 51 or Wyoming. There they would be free from the influence of lobbyists, special interests, the media, right wing nut jobs, socialists, communists, religion, everybody. Let each entity affected by the outcome of a particular law be allowed to submit to its representatives a single page stating its viewpoint, giving equal weight to the little guy and moneybags corporations alike. Then, force Congress to write legislation that makes sense and get at least preliminary approval from Executive and Judicial before it's signed into law. Like a jury, they won't be dismissed until they FIX IT!!!!
Third idea: Isn't it time for some heads to be rolling by now? I want to see criminal charges against (lots of people, but let's start with) those greedy Wall Street executives that caused the meltdown. Make them pay back their bonuses or whatever is left of it, make their families live in some of the poverty that their loved ones helped to create, and send these people to prison. Turn their numerous houses into VA hospitals, mental health facilities, homeless shelters, whatever...But it's past time. What they have intentionally done or failed to prevent through their greed and/or carelessness is criminal. Our criminal justice system needs to grow a pair and lock them up!!!
Whew! I'm all fired up now. That's all I've got for now but let me know what you think. Meanwhile I'll keep working.
