I don’t want to live in this country, this thing that passes for America today. I can’t be labeled as a republican, or a democrat, or a liberal, or a conservative because they’ve all got it all wrong. There are ideals behind each of our beliefs that contribute to its validity. Guns are important. Democracy is important. FREEDOM is the ultimate goal and of the most critical importance. But also important is the idea that we house our citizens and take care of our sick without it costing them their house. Putting the left against the right then trying to make sense of all the nonsense and figure out who wins the argument has gotten us where we stand today. My heart breaks and I weep for the America that could be, if only we made the necessary change of values and power that would then empower each and every individual. I would like to see an America that believes in integrity, peace, justice. Our country is rotting and decaying, choked to immobility and incompetence by greed and corruption. Power shifts and bailouts have rendered the people powerless. The country I want to live in offers the same things as suggested in FDR’s 2nd Bill of Rights - decent wages, jobs, housing, healthcare, and entertainment. The America I envision requires accountability, work, production of usable goods, and a responsibility of every American to care for themselves, their families, and each other – regardless of race, religion, age, sex, socioeconomic status, or any of the other labels we use to stereotype one another and thus chip away at personal value. Those who are in a position to help others, not with a handout but with an opportunity…NOW is the time. We can’t rely on our government to do this, they can’t, they won’t, and they aren’t. Those who have acted criminally and unethically, offer reparation or turn yourselves in now and receive a more lenient punishment than you will get once my generation finally becomes empowered and sanity conquers control. Stop buying everything from China. Start making things here. Farm the land. Heal the infrastructure. Put us to work. Offer an affordable education. Support research and the arts. Don’t be greedy. Don’t be lazy. Don’t be unfair, or hateful, and definitely not abusive. The greatest generation suffered unspeakable horrors for our freedom, yet it is being squandered and humiliated. America has become such a distasteful place. Immigrants flaunt our laws, then abuse our system put in place to protect the human rights we value so dearly. Jobs are scarce to many, and even those with jobs find them uninspiring and tiresome and unfulfilling. Workers do not earn enough to pay for the basic necessities, and yet we wonder why not many have saved for their future. Our government representatives have been bought and paid for by special interests & others, and do not have the best interests of their constituents in mind. Their goal is only lining their pockets while they’ve got the chance or getting re-elected so they can further continue to do so. Big companies and their CEO’s and their standard operating procedures have robbed us of our power, our dignity, and the tiny amount of wealth we once aspired to grab a tiny shred of. Now we know that the chance for a home, and healthcare, and a secure retirement was just a mirage that has evaporated with the hope for change that was sparked then extinguished ever so quickly. I refuse to accept an America whereby we have 2 years of stagnation because efforts at compromise in our government are either futile or only offers unsatisfactory concessions from everyone. I absolutely reject an America whose first female leader would be such an inept caricature as the one currently being considered by some. So what does that make me? How do you want to label me? Am I a socialist because I believe the playing field should be re-evaluated and changed? Am I unpatriotic because I believe there is nothing to be won in our current war? Does my feeling that my generation was not afforded the same opportunities as the one previous make me entitled, or just lazy? Am I way off base about the disparity of wages & the distribution of wealth? Are you really surprised that the only people really satisfied with our government work on Wall St.? None of us in our hearts truly love today’s America. The incumbents from both parties will continue to be voted out until we finally have an America where sound principals and just ideals, and laws that not only make sense but restore America to her former glory and empower every American are firmly in place. I feel like starting a revolution. Too bad I’m powerless…
Well, maybe not completely. Pass it on if you don’t like Sarah Palin, or Obama, or Bush, or Democrats and Republicans….or bankers, insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, Bernie Madoff, Goldman Sachs, BP, the French…you get the picture.
